Length of treatment
How long do I have to take Talicia?
It only takes 14 days of treatment to result in high rates of cure.
- Talicia should be taken exactly as directed and for the entire 14 days1
- Skipping doses or not completing the treatment may not rid H. pylori from your stomach and may increase the chance that the bacteria in your body may develop resistance, making it more difficult to treat with Talicia or other medications in the future2
Remember:
You may feel better before you’re done taking Talicia. H. pylori is a very tough bacteria that can survive if not gotten rid of completely. Just because your symptoms are gone does not mean that H. pylori bacteria has been completely killed.1
Side effects and recovery
What are the possible side effects of Talicia?
Talicia is well tolerated. Here are some key facts from the clinical trial1:
- Only 1% of patients stopped Talicia due to side effects
- The most common side effects experienced by 1% or more of patients taking Talicia were diarrhea, headache, nausea, stomach pain, a brown-orange discoloration of the urine, sweat, or skin which goes away after therapy is completed or discontinued, rash, indigestion, vomiting, mouth or throat pain, and vaginal yeast infection
How long does it take to recover from H. pylori?
Many people begin to feel relief from symptoms like stomach pain, bloating, and belching soon after completing their Talicia prescription—once the bacteria have been eradicated. Full recovery from H. pylori infection, though, can take a few weeks or months depending on the severity of the infection.3
Call your doctor right away if you experience new or worsening symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, and changes in stool color or consistency. These could be signs of serious complications like ulcers, bleeding, or a need for further treatment.2
Follow-up testing
Should I have follow-up testing to make sure H. pylori is gone?
Yes. After you finish the full course of Talicia, you should get tested again to confirm that bacteria have completely rid from your body.
About 4 to 6 weeks after your last dose of Talicia, you should get tested again to make sure H. pylori bacteria is gone from your stomach. This will tell your doctor if treatment was effective or if you need to try a different medication.3
